LEAD TO SOLVE PROBLEMS
1 Act to Lead
Flexibility:
Group & Community Members, need to know:
Groups need leaders.
The intent and actions of leaders influence a group's future action and the amount of satisfaction felt by group members.
All leadership roles give and get information in a community.
2 Get Satisfaction
All leaders encounter resistance to their attempts to lead.
Few leaders get any formal leadership training.
A leader improves his/her chances of success if he/she knows what leadership style to use under what situation.
An effective leader = satisfied group members.

- The word "problem" is a word to get satisfactory changes for involved members.
- A group member will accept change, when he/she gets to share in the decision to change and to decide how he/sher will change his/her actions.
- A group will accept change, when the members share in the decision to change.
- Then, the group members get to decide how they will change their actions.
- If one group member decides to change his/her actions from useless to useful then the group will act in a more useful manner.
- Useful actions for a group member:
- Listen with understanding and re-state the problems.
- Help the group make choices.
- Review the rules to define what to do.
- The options for what not to do are often large.
- Trust the group to act without a decision from only the leader.
- Talk openly and honestly.
- Identify the useful action(s) by others.
- When a group member uses the above action(s) then the their will be increased cooperation.
- Members will feel a need to change & grow.
- To lead an individual must know both how member:
- feel about work
- think about work
- If a leader:
- avoids group members' feelings and only cares about how he/she thinks then he/she diminishes the group member's actions and the results of everyone.
- uses power to win conflicts then he/she diminishes the satisfaction of the group.
- permits a group member to win at his/her expense then the leader diminishes the group satisfaction.
- The challenge:
- is not to be tough of soft
- is to assertively resolve conflict so every group member gets some their needs satisfied.
- Result = exchange of benefits.
