- Dominate, boss, bully those with less power
- Need to win, hate to lose, perfect
- Form alliances, organize against the authority
- Submit, obey, comply
- Court favor, butter up the authority
- Conform, fear trying something new
- Require assurance of success beyond reason
- Depend on authority solely to decide
- Withdraw, escape, fantasize, regress
- Get sick
- Cry
- Facilitate problem solving when to help members move beyond repeating patterns of resistance.
- Help members influence their environment in a positive manner.

2 Earn Trust

- An individual who has the title of a leader earns the respect and trust of the group members. by helping them solve their problems.
3 Find Followers
- A leader must find individuals willing to accept:
- influence
- guidance
- direction
- The leader must listen to their struggles to satisfy their needs.
- Individuals will follow leaders who can meet their expected needs.
- Individuals can identify and describe the critical attitudes, actions, and rules required to meet their needs.
- Individuals know what a leader must do to earn and retain their respect and trust.
